Turkey enjoys deep-rooted historical and cultural ties with Yemen. In order to complete the legal framework of bilateral commercial and economic relations, Turkey and Yemen have signed a number of agreements, including Agreement on Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation (1991), Bilateral Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (2000) and Double Taxation Prevention Agreement (2010).

Turkish - Yemeni Joint Committee, established in accordance with the Agreement on Trade, Economic and Technical Cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Government of the Republic of Yemen, dated August 26, 1991.

Turkish-Yemen Business Council was founded in 2010 in order to develop and enhance bilateral economic cooperation between both countries’ business circles.

Exports

Yemen was Turkey’s 69th largest goods export market in 2011.

Turkish goods exports to Yemen in 2011 were 273 million $, down 18% (330 million $) from 2010.

The top export categories (2-digit SITC) for 2011 were: iron and steel (164 million $), cereals and cereal preparations (42 million $), coffee, tea, cocoa, spices, and manufactures thereof (13 million $), electrical machinery and apparatus (10 million $), textile yarn, fabrics, made-up articles (4 million $).

Imports

Yemen was Turkey’s 178th largest supplier of goods imports in 2011.

Turkish goods imports from Yemen totaled 464.000 $ in 2011, down 56% (1 million $) from 2010.

The top 5 imports categories (2-digit SITC) for 2011 were: vegetables and fruits (260.000 $), electrical machinery, apparatus and appliances (128.000 $), textile fibres (42.000 $), plastics in primary forms (9.200 $), non-ferrous metals (8.000 $).

Trade Balance

The trade surplus of goods with Yemen was 272 million $ in 2011, a 17% decrease (329 million $) over 2010.

Contracting and Consultancy Services

Yemen is a significant market for Turkish contractors. Turkish firms have undertaken 14 projects in Yemen with a total value of 1.6 billion dollars up until now.
